Netanyahu: I Will Stress to British Prime Minister the Need to Stand Up to Iran

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at Sunday's cabinet meeting that Israel is at the beginning of a significant political era, noting that he will travel to Britain today to meet with Prime Minister Theresa May.

Netanyahu said that he will stress to May the need for a joint stance against "Iran's defiant aggression with has surfaced in recent days," referring to Iran's ballistic missile test last week.

Netanyahu noted that this is always a necessity, "though especially in light of Iran's latest defiance against the international order."

Netanyahu and May's meeting will be their first summit since May took office in July after her predecessor David Cameron stepped down over the results of the Brexit vote held the previous month.

Netanyahu said the missile test violated a UN Security Council resolution and vowed to talk to U.S. President Donald Trump about renewing sanctions against Tehran.

Netanyahu's talks with May come two weeks after her meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and a week and a half ahead of Netanyahu's scheduled talks with Trump.

Two weeks ago, the head of Israel's Mossad and its acting national security adviser made a secret visit to Washington D.C., where they met with senior aides to President Donald Trump to coordinate policy between the Israeli government and the new U.S. administration, a senior official in Jerusalem said.
