The Daily Mail reported this statement, which had been on Trump's site since December, was removed hours after he was elected president:
"Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on. According to Pew Research, among others, there is great hatred towards Americans by large segments of the Muslim population."
His position had garnered universal condemnation. But Trump had tempered his rhetoric toward the end of his campaign, ABC News reported.
Further, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, who's believed to be the leading candidate to become President-elect Trump's chief of staff, said Wednesday that another pillar of Trump's immigration plan — mass deportations — is now off the table, too.
Priebus said deportation is only for those who have committed crimes.
However, Trump's plan to build the wall is still very much in play — No. 1 on Trump's 10-point plan to put America first.
