Manama : The Supreme Appeals Court yesterday upheld the sentences of 57 men, convicted of forming a terrorist group with links to Iran and Iraq.
All the defendants have received heavy jail terms and were also stripped of their Bahraini nationality.
Sixty-one men had undergone trial in this case, out of which four were acquitted due to lack of evidence. The prosecutors had filed criminal charges against the defendants for forming a terrorist group in the Kingdom with links to hard-liners affiliated to Al Shirazi Movement.
Five of the convicted men were slapped with life imprisonment, while 22 defendants were given 15 years in jail. The other convicts were handed down 10-year jail sentences.
They were all fined BD500, except for one, who received BD1,000 fine.
Topping the list of the convicts is notorious prisoner Redha Al Ghasra, who is serving over 150 years behind the bars after being convicted in a set of terrorism-related cases.
