The director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation of the Russian Federation, Alexander Fomin, stated that Russia has completed the contract on the supply of S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems to Iran, RIA Novosti reported. “All the complexes have been delivered,” Fomin said without specifying the number of these complexes.
In 2007, Iran and Russia signed a contract for the supply of S-300 missile systems to Iran. However, the contract was suspended due to a UN Security Council resolution imposing a ban on the supply of modern weapons to Iran. After the agreement on Iran’s nuclear program was reached, the president of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, signed a decree in April 2015, lifting the ban on the supply of these missile systems.
S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems are considered one of the most powerful anti-aircraft defense systems in the world. These missile systems are able to hit ballistic and aerial targets and are designed to protect large industrial and administrative facilities, military bases, and control stations from enemy air attacks.
