40 Prisoners’ Death Sentences Confirmed During a Week

HRANA News Agency – At least forty prisoners’ death sentences were confirmed last week in Ghezelhesar prison in Karaj. Most of the sentences were announced on Sunday February 2nd.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the judiciary has declined the request of these prisoners for retrial in a period of less than two days.

The prisoners had requested retrial provided with new reasons. The new criminal procedure law has allowed a retrial in proceedings in capital cases of drug offences.

Ghezelhesar prison of Karaj had the highest number of executions for drug convicts in the country in previous years.
