Narges Mohammadi Will Be Tried On January 9th

HRANA News Agency – The trial session of Narges Mohammadi, imprisoned human rights activist, is scheduled for January 9, in branch number 15 of the revolutionary court by chief judge Salavati.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the trial session of this imprisoned civil rights activist who is kept in women’s ward of Evin prison, had been postponed two times before for different reasons.

Nages Mohammadi, the deputy director of Human Right Defenders of Iran, was arrested in her house by the security forces on May 5th, 2015, without receiving any prior court order, and was transferred to Evin prison.

Ms. Mohammadi is suffering from pulmonary embolism, and muscle paresis and the security and judicial authorities are aware of these diseases in the way which they accepted to release her in 2012, due to her diseases following the recommendations issued by the specialist physician and forensics that was stated that prison would make Ms. Mohammad vulnerable to muscle paresis.

This human rights activist had been arrested and imprisoned many times. In one occasion she was arrested on June 10, 2010. In September of the same year she was sentenced to 11 years in prison, on charges of collusion against the national security by being a member of human right activist defenders of Iran, and propaganda against the regime, in branch number 28 of the revolutionary court. This sentence was reduced to 6 years in March 2012. Again on April 21, 2012 she was arrested in Zanjan and transferred to Evin prison. Then she was transferred to Zanjan prison on May 16, 2012. She was transferred to Valiasr hospital of Zanjan on July 9.

Narges Mohammadi was temporarily released on 600 million Toman bail, on 31 July 2012, but she was victimized and harassed with threats and summons of security and judicial authorities.

She was summoned on June 1, 2014 by the Evin court and was interrogated. Then she was informed that she is prohibited from leaving the country. Then she was summoned on May 13, 2015 by branch number 15 of the revolutionary court of Tehran and had a court hearing for charges like acts against the national security, propaganda against the regime and activities like attendance in rallies like Cancellation of Death Sentence. She is one of the defenders of the mother of late blogger, Sattar Beheshti who was killed in FATA (Cyber Police of Iran) detention centre, on November 3, 2012.
