Saturday 06 June 2015Each of 2 Civil Rights Activists Sentenced to 13 years in Prison
HRANA News Agency – Hossain Ali Mohammadi and Taha Kermani, two civil right activists from Tabriz city, have been each sentenced to 13 years in prison. According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), branch number 3 of the revolutionary court of Tabriz, has sentenced Hossain Ali Mohammadi and Taha Kermani to ten years in prison on charges of blasphemy and setting fire on public properties with the intention of opposing Islamic regime, on May 12. In the issued verdict by court, the reason for blasphemy charge is the holly word of Allah, on the flag that had been allegedly burned by these civil rights activists, the allegation that have been denied by both. These civil rights activist were previously sentenced to three years in prison by branch number three of the revolutionary court of Tabriz, for publishing an article in Soosma publication and SooSoozgol blog, which was confirmed in the appeal court. Taha Kermani, was arrested on November 4, 2013, after his interrogation finished, he was transferred to Tabriz prison. He was released on April 15, 2014, after 5 months in temporary arrest, on the bail of 300 million Tomans. Hossain Ali Mohammadi, who was arrested along with Taha Kermani with similar charges, in last case was arrested on March 1st, and transferred to Tabriz prison. He is currently kept in ward number 12 of central prison of Tabriz. |
