HRANA News Agency – Prisoners’ families’ unnecessary, abusive and sometimes violent physical inspection, during their visit with prisoners in Rajai Shahr prison, annoys the families and scares their children. According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), recently, prison officers, in addition to routine inspections, check the families of prisoners with a metal detector that scares the children, who go for visit. A member of one of the prisoner’s family, in this regard told HRANA’s reporter: “My son was always asking for his father until one day I had to take him with me to visit his father, but the violent behavior of soldiers and the way of checking were so haste and insulting that made him cry in fear all the time, and now, when I talk about prison and visiting, immediately he says that I am not coming.” According to another member of the family of a prisoner, in addition to inappropriate and offensive inspections, some officials, particularly with men visitors, during the inspection do vulgar jokes and use inappropriate words that are offensive and can even be considered as sexual abuse. Although inspections in prison is typical, but the inspection method, violence and insults along with that, frequently lead to protests and complaints by prisoners’ families, particularly on political prisoners, that prison authorities know very well that they are not that kind of people who would bring drugs or illegal items into the prison. |
