rudaw.net -Iran's top police official Hussein Ashtari has said the violent demonstration in early May in the ethnically Kurdish city of Mahabad was social unrest that anti-government elements tried to make a political issue.
Ashtari said an estimated 40 Iranian security officers were wounded during the incident.
