A Report about Farooq Samani’s Situation in Mahabad Prison

HRANA News Agency – Farooq Samani, political prisoner, started his third year of imprisonment in Mahabad prison, without having any furlough.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Farooq Samani, artist and animation maker, was arrested by the security forces on 23th February 2013, and was transferred to the detention center of the Ministry of Intelligence.

He was charged with propaganda against the regime, acting against national security through gathering and collusion and membership in PJAK.

One of his relatives about Farooq Samani’s charges, told HRANA: “Farooq is an artist and animator, and the reason of his arrest was participating in public gatherings in 2012, it was possible to have sympathy to the thoughts of PJAK, but his membership was never discussed, and finally he was acquitted of this charge, otherwise they would have sentenced him to death.”

This artist was transferred to Mahabad prison, on 18th March 2013 and in February 2014 after nearly a year of his detention he was notified of 5 years imprisonment sentence on charges of propaganda against the regime and acting against national security by gathering and collusion.

Farooq Samani, was returned to Mahabad prison, along with Alireza Rasooli, and Khezr Rasool Morovat, for unknown reasons 4 months after getting the fixed verdict. Samani has started his 3rd year of imprisonment since last February without being sent on leave from prison.
