Friday 26 September 2014Boehner to Obama: Don't go soft on IranWashingtonExaminer.com House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said in a statement Friday that the Obama administration should not soften demands on Iran to help stalled talks for a nuclear arms deal. “Iran is a state-sponsor of terror,” Boehner said in a statement. “It has no interest in a stable, strong Iraq. The country has a deplorable human rights record, and it still has American hostages. Furthermore, there is no evidence that Iran intends to comply with honest transparency and accountability measures over its nuclear ambitions. At a time when we are asking other governments in the Middle East to help the United States take on and destroy [Islamic State of Iraq and Syria], we are giving a pass to Iran, which is the number one threat to the entire region.” The Associated Press reported that the U.S. is weighing a plan that would let Iran keep half of the 10,000 centrifuges the country operates currently, rather than forcing Iran to cut the number to 1,500. The U.S. proposal involves cutting the amount of uranium gas pumped into the centrifuges, which would make it difficult to produce a nuclear weapon. The AP reported that French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said the talks with Iran have failed to advance. |
