Friday 29 August 2014Zarif Wraps Up Regional Tour, Departs Moscow for Tehran
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif wrapped up his regional visits and left Moscow for Tehran on Friday afternoon. Zarif's last leg of regional tour took him to the Russian capital on Friday morning to hold talks with the country's senior officials. During his visit to Moscow, the Iranian foreign minister conferred with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on the latest regional and international developments. Zarif and Lavrov underlined the need for a rise in regional cooperation against extremism and terrorism in a joint press conference held in Moscow. Zarif said Iran and Russia share common viewpoints about fighting terrorism in the Middle East. "Tehran and Moscow have similar stances towards regional and international developments, including the need for fighting extremism and violence in the region," Zarif said. Meantime, the Iranian foreign minister warned against spread of extremism from Syria to Iraq, Lebanon and other regional states. "Terrorism can go beyond the Middle East and North Africa to Europe and the US," Zarif said. The Iranian foreign Minister left Tehran for Ankara on Thursday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Turkish President-Elect Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In the last several years, Iran and Russia have had vast cooperation in different fields, specially in political and economic spheres. The two states also enjoy special positions on the international scene and have long had constant and regular consultations on key regional and global issues. |
