After 5 months of detention, a Kurdish citizen is still under arrest

HRANA News Agency – Rahim Rashi 66-year-old resident of Mahabad is still imprisoned after five months of detention without trial.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Rahim Rashi, Kurdish civilian resident of Mahabad, was arrested on 20th February by Mahabad security forces and after 15 days in solitary cell, he was taken to general ward in Mahabad city General Prison.

A close relative of this aged political prisoner told HRANA: “The security forces went to Rahim Rashi’s home and told him that they are going to take him to “Intelligence office” for a brief explanation that has lasted five months so far.”

He added; “Rahim Rashi was detained because his son is a member of an opposition Kurdish Party. In fact, he is considered as a hostage until his son returns”.

This source also said: “Rahim Rashi was arrested in August 2010, too and went on hunger strike for 43 days that caused him kidney problems”.

So far, Rahim Rashi has been once taken to Mahabad Revolutionary Court but there is no exact information of his charges and he remains in prison with no verdict.
