TEHRAN, Sep. 26 (MNA) – Iran unveiled the air-launched versions of two domestically manufactured missile systems during a ceremony held in Tehran on Wednesday on the occasion of Sacred Defense Week.
In Iran, the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war is known as the Sacred Defense, and Sacred Defense Week is held on the anniversary of the beginning of the war.
Sacred Defense Week begins on Shahrivar 31 in the Iranian calendar (September 22 this year), which is the day Iraq invaded Iran and began the imposed war on the country in 1980.
The missiles, named the Qader and the Nasr, can be launched from aircraft.
The previous version of the Qader was a coast-to-sea cruise missile with a range of 200 kilometers and the previous version of the Nasr was a short-range surface-to-surface cruise missile, which could be launched from the seashore and had the capability to hit large vessels with high precision.
During the ceremony, Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan said that competent Iranian experts with their exemplary creativity managed to design and manufacture the air-launched versions of Qader and Nasr missiles.
He added that the new missile systems would significantly increase the country’s deterrence capability.
