Monday 02 September 2013Iran’s inflation rate hits 35.1 per cent
Trend R.Zamanov/ Iran's inflation hit 35.1 per cent in the fifth calendar month of the current year (July 22 - August 21), which is 1.2 per cent more than its preceding month, the Statistical Centre of Iran announced on Sunday. The country's inflation index also stood at 168.1 units in the mentioned month, the Fars News Agency reported. The inflation index was 1.8 per cent more than its preceding year. Head of Majlis Research Center Kazem Jalali said in July that the inflation rate is really alarming and the officials should try to find a solution as soon as possible. "By selling bonds and gold coins as well as reducing liquidity, we hope to curb inflation," Bahmani stated. Iran's average monthly inflation rate was 25.4 percent during the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20. In April, the International Monetary Fund reported that Iran's economy contracted by 1.9 percent in 2012 and is expected to shrink by 1.3 percent this year. |
