Persian2English – Javid Houtan Kian, the lawyer for Sakineh Mohammad Ashtiani was released from prison today. Mr. Kian was released following more than three years of imprisonment. He was released at 10:00 a.m. from Tabriz Central Prison.
Islamic Republic of Iran authorities arrested Mr. Kian on October 10, 2010 at his office while he was in the middle of an in-person interview with two German reporters regarding the stoning sentence of his client, Ms. Mohammadi Ashtiani.
There have been various reports published on the tortures Mr. Kian has endured while in custody of the Iranian authorities.
In May 2013, human rights NGO Justice for Iran (JFI) nominated Mr. Kian for a 2013 award presented by Lawyers for Lawyers, a Dutch organization that aims to helps lawyers in danger around the world.
