Kurdish Prisoner Transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison

Ahmad Tamouee, a Kurdish political prisoner at Rajaee Shahr Prison, ended an illegal exile this week when he was first summoned by the Sentence Enforcement Unit and then transferred to Orumiyeh Prison on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 17, a local source told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran.

According to the source, Ahmad Tamouee was illegally exiled when he was abruptly transferred from Orumiyeh Prison to Rajaee Shahr Prison on December 11, 2012, and was told several times by the Sentence Enforcement Unit officials of Rajaee Shahr prison that the transfer represented a punishment for him, and that only after the Intelligence Ministry decided and approved his transfer, could he be returned to Orumiyeh.

The source, a human rights activist, told the Campaign that in the Fall of 2007, Ahmad Tamouee and Yousef Kakeh Meimi, another Kurdish citizen from Mahabad, were arrested riding a motor bike on the road between Boukan and Mahabad. After a pursuit by several local IRGC and Intelligence Office vehicles, and after one of the vehicles deliberately rammed into their moving motor bike and the forces shot at the two men, an injured Ahmad Tamouee and Yousef Kakeh Meimi were arrested and transferred to the IRGC detention center in Mahabad.

“After the Mahabad Revolutionary Court sentenced Ahmad Tamouee to 15 years and Yousef Kakeh Meimi to six years in prison on charges of ‘membership in PJAK,’ Kakeh Meimi’s prior three-year suspended prison term was added to his six years and he began serving his total of nine years in prison along with Tamouee. The two political prisoners and three other political prisoners were transferred to Orumiyeh Intelligence Office detention center in October 2012 on charges of ‘cooperating with the office of UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, and contacting Newroz TV satellite television,’” the source added.
