Saturday 27 April 2013Iran to unveil indigenous ballistic, cruise missiles
Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi says Iran will unveil indigenous ballistic and cruise missiles as well as other new military achievements by the next five months. “New Iranian ballistic and cruise missiles will be unveiled in the first six months of the current [Iranian] year (before mid-September),” said Vahidi in a Saturday interview. The Iranian defense minister noted that the new cruise missile has a longer range compared with the previous versions. He noted that Iran will also unveil new bombs during the period. Touching on Iran’s new naval achievements before mid-September, Vahidi pointed out that launching a new submarine and a missile-launching WIG craft (Wing in Ground craft) are on the agenda of Iran’s Navy. In the air defense, Iran plans to showcase new helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles during the period, the defense minister said. During the Army Day parade on April 18, Iran unveiled a number of indigenous military achievements, including a stealth unmanned aerial vehicle, two missile systems, and a mobile electronic interception system. Over the past years, Iran has made important breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems. On Tuesday, Iran’s Deputy Defense Minister Brigadier General Majid Bokaei said the Islamic Republic has successfully test-fired a land-to-sea ballistic missile in the Persian Gulf. He noted that the missile was a modified model of a surface-to-surface missile. Press TV |
