Saturday 15 December 2012Arrest of labor activist Hadi Daneshyar’s father in the city of Shiraz
Committee of Human Rights Reporters – On Tuesday December 11th, agents from the Shiraz Ministry of Intelligence raided the residence of Hadi Daneshyar and upon learning that he was not home, they detained his father. According to news obtained by CHRR, the labor activist’s father made short contact with his family and informed them that the Shiraz Revolutionary Court had issued a temporary detention order and he was transferred to Abel Abad prison. During the raid to Hadi Daneshyar’s home, agents confiscated personal items such as books and his computer. There is no information on what the charges are against his father and why he was detained. Hadi Daneshyar is a 38-year-old labor activist who on November 18th was handed a 3-year prison sentence by the Shiraz Revolutionary Court on charges of propaganda against the regime for the benefit of anti-regime groups, and attending illegal gatherings. Daneshyar was previously arrested in 2008 during the miners’ strike at Fars province. He was subjected to 2 months of interrogations at the Ministry of Intelligence detention center and Adel Abad prison before being granted temporary release on bail. He had been detained earlier that year and handed a 2-year sentence on the charge of endangering national security by inciting miners’ riots. |
