On January 4, a large number of workers from Shomal Industrial Plantation Company in northern Iran staged a gathering by Mianroud provincial city council protesting the plant closure. Shomal Industrial Plantation Company, the largest producer of cooking oil in the Middle East has been in idle mode for weeks because of a fraud case of the main owner of the plant. According to one of the workers talking with Mehr News Agency, the plant employed 1400 people five years ago producing 700 tons of products. Now, there are only 750 workers left at the plant producing 1000 tons. The workers have not been paid for 45 days. The workers blame the poor management for financial woes at the company.
