Friday 24 June 2011Iran to host int’’l conference on combating terrorism today
TEHRAN: Iran is due to host on Saturday the International Conference on Campaign against Terrorism with participation of leaders from at least six Arab states and officials of regional and international organizations. Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said in a statement that the convention, to be attended by heads of state, premiers and other senior officials of various countries, would be inaugurated with a speech by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The conference secretary general, Bahman aherian-Mobarakeh, said in a statement to the local media that representatives of more than 60 states, regional and international organizations would take part in the gathering. Taherian-Mobarakeh stated that the United Nations, the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Economic Cooperation Organization, and Interpol are among the international and regional organizations which have been officially invited to send representatives to the conference. He indicated that the convention would be "a useful and an effective step on the path of rallying efforts for combating terrorism."
