Xinhua -- The senior Iranian Army commander, General Farzad Esmaili, said Sunday that the country "successfully " test-fired two new home-made, Mersad and Shahin, air defense systems, the local English language satellite Press TV reported.
The primary samples of the Mersad and Shahin missiles have been successfully test-fired and submitted to the country's air defense system, Esmaili was quoted as saying.
He also said that Iran's radar system has been optimized and is currently in a "very suitable" condition.
Esmaili had earlier announced that the Mersad air defense system is capable of hitting targets up to 150 km away, said the report without further details.
In May, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said that his country would unveil a number of newly-manufactured home-made ballistic missiles in future.
Last week, Iranian parliament speaker Ali Larijani said that Iran made considerable progress in producing missile systems and they would be used to defend the country and the Muslim nations.
