Thursday 09 June 2011Mehdi Mahmoudian transferred to Solitary Confinement
Mehdi Mahmoudian, member of the Information Committee for the Participation Front who was arrested after the disputed election results in 2009 for exposing the atrocities that were taking place at Kahrizak prison, was this afternoon transferred to solitary confinement. This is despite the fact that during his time behind bars, he has been subjected to much torment and harassment, and he now suffers from a severe lung infection. As reported by Tahavole Sabz, no reason has been given for the transfer of Mahmoudian. Considering his weak physical condition resulting from his recent hunger strike, his family is now extremely worried about this political prisoner’s well being. The prison officials contacted Mahmoudian’s family, explaining that they had their orders and had to carry them out by transferring Mahmoudian to solitary confinement. The Coordination Council for the Green Path of Hope has called on people to participate in a silent march on June 12, 2011, from Vali Asr Square to Vanak. Following this announcement Mehdi Mahmoudian, along with several other prisoners at Rajai Shahr published a statement asking that people stand with the leaders of the Green Movement and once again rise and create another epic uprising.
