The Iranian regime to investigate Saudi role in Bahrain

Tehran announced it was conducting an investigation into alleged atrocities committed against the Bahrain people by their government and Saudi Arabia.

Iranian lawmaker Mostafa Kavakebian announced Friday the Iranian Parliament would "thoroughly review the massacre of Bahraini people by al-Saud and al-Khalifa (regimes)" during a two-day conference next week, the semiofficial Fars News Agency reports.

Tehran is upset with a decision by Saudi Arabia to send forces to Bahrain under the auspices of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The minority Sunni leadership in Bahrain is struggling to control mounting frustration from the country's Shiite majority.

Iran's state-funded broadcaster Press TV reports that anti-government protesters have taken to the streets in Bahrain to protest the Saudi presence in the country.

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said during talks in April with Saudi officials that Riyadh didn't seem particularly concerned by Iranian action in the region. Washington, however, had information suggesting Tehran was meddling in the affairs of Bahrain.
