With Iran judiciary’s announcement, on the dawn of Wednesday January 12 eight individuals were executed under charges of dealing drug and statuary rape which raised the number of executed to 40 over the past three weeks.
Seven of these executions have taken place under charges of “transportation and dealing of drug” such as Hashish, heroin and opium and one has executed for raping a teenage girl. These sentences were issued from various branches of the revolutionary court.
According to reports posted on the Islamic Republic News Agencies, the last 8 executions raised the number of executions to 40 individuals in less than a month most of which have been on drug related cases.
According to AFP, Iran has executed at least 179 individuals in 2010, and besides China, Saudi Arabia, and United states of America is one of the countries with the largest count on enforcing capital punishment.
