Iranian FM Calls to Lift Visa between Iran, Iraq

During his present visit to Iraq, Iran's caretaker foreign minister, Ali Akbar Salehi, met with the Iraqi leadership, including President Jalal Talabani, Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki, Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, and Supreme Islamic Council Head Ammar Al-Hakim. He also met with Shi'ite religious leaders, and gave Ayatollah Sistani a letter from Khamenei.

Salehi praised Iraq's pluralism and democracy, and called to increase Iranian investments in the country and to lift the visa requirements between Iraq and Iran.

In Karbala he met with Ayatollah Mohammad Taqi Modaressi, who called to remove the barriers between the countries and to enlist the Shi'ites to fight Islamophobia.
