Eight people were hanged in Iran early today January 3

Iran Human Rights, January 3, 2011: Eight people have been hanged in two different towns in Iran early this morning.

According to several Iranian news agencies seven people were hanged in the prison of Kermanshah west of Iran early this morning. The reports that were quoting Mojtaba Maleki, the prosecutor general of Kermanshah, wrote that all the seven executed today were convicted of drug related offences.

None of those executed in Kermanshah today were identified by name.

According to the news website Zahedan press one man was hanged in the prison of Zahedan (Southeast of Iran) early this morning Monday January 3. The man who was hanged today was identified as Bahman Rigi, convicted of shooting and killing four others in 2008, said the report that was quoting the press office of the judiciary in Zahedan.

Four others were hanged in Zahedan, two days ago, on the first day of the new year.

During the past 13 days, at least 40 prisoners have been executed by the Iranian authorities.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of Iran Human Rights, condemned today’s executions and said: "The international community must react to 40 executions in less than two weeks". He added:" Lack of international reactions is interpreted by the Iranian authorities as a grean light to go ahead with more executions".
