Thursday 30 December 2010Global Campaign to Save the Life of Habibollah Latifi
The Committee of Human Rights Reporters - In the past few days, most members of Habibollah Latifi’s family and many civil rights activists who protested his possible execution were arrested. Following up, most members of Mr. Latifi’s family were released but they are still incommunicado. Most of the civil rights activists who were arrested in the past few days have been transferred from the Ministry of Intelligence ward to the quarantine ward of Sanandaj Central prison. The initial charges against some of the arrested have been revised. There is no news about the new charges [against them] or their whereabouts. The Global Campaign to Save the Life of Habibollah Latifi expresses concern with regards to the continued detention of the protesters and demands the immediate release of those arrested in Sanandaj in the past few days. The campaign believes that being unable to communicate with Habibollah Latifi’s family members [after their release] is due to security pressures that must end as soon as possible. The Global Campaign to Save the Life of Habibollah Latifi also condemns the execution of Ali Saremi and Ali Akbar Siyadat who were executed in complete isolation and through an unjust process. The campaign declares that concerns have grown with regards to the execution of other activists. The campaign demands the annulment of the execution sentence for Habibollah Latifi and anyone who faces the death penalty. Translation by Tour Irani, Persian2English |
