The Iranian news agency Fars reported that Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that whether Democrats or Republicans win in today's midterm elections in the U.S., it will in no way influence Tehran's policy for safeguarding Iran's rights and interests.

He said, "We will pursue our plans in accordance with our clear and specific goals and on the basis of those factors with a determining role for our nation and with an effective role in ensuring our interests."

Asked about Washington's future policies on Iran if Republicans win in the elections, Mehmanparast said, "During the reign of the Democrats, nobody really felt that the Republicans are gone and Democrats have come to power, because no major change was witnessed in the (U.S.) policies."

"In our view, no change happened in the (U.S.) policies due to the coming and going of these different parties," Mehmanparast continued.

He further called on future U.S. authorities to change Washington's current approach and try to respect the rights of the other nations and to root out and uproot injustice and discrimination in U.S. policies, Fars said.
