TEHRAN, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- A Swedish cosmetics company, Oriflame, said five of its staff members in Iran have been arrested, presumably on charges related to its sales strategy.
Swedish news agency Tidningarnas Telegrambyra reported Monday authorities in Tehran arrested two members of Oriflame's sales staff and three others on "undisclosed charges."
"We presume that the actions of the authorities has something to do with our business idea. Our business idea is to sell cosmetic products and to give 40,000 Iranians, principally women, the chance to earn money on the direct sales," said Gabriel Bennet, the firm's chief financial officer.
"We can't specify exactly who they are. But obviously the authorities focus on those with more senior positions in the company," Bennet said.
Closing the firm's operations in Iran could result in a loss of about $12.7 million for the year, the news agency said.
