The Lebanese website Now Lebanon reports, citing an official source in Damascus, that Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), recently paid a secret visit to Syria. During this visit he proposed that, in return for Iran's help in resolving the Iraqi government crisis, the Gulf states would refrain from supporting an attack on Iran.
It should be noted that Khamenei's advisor Ali Akbar Velayati and Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki also visited Syria recently.
