TEHRAN, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Qashqavi has condemned German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier's statement on Iran's post-election trial, the semi-official ISNA news agency reported on Tuesday.
Qashqavi condemned Steinmeier's "unconventional and interventionist" statement regarding the trial of Iran's post-election insurgents, ISNA said.
Iran began on Saturday trials of about 100 suspects, accused of rioting in the disputed June presidential election unrest, in a revolutionary court in Tehran.
On Sunday, Steinmeier said in a statement that he believed the court was not transparent and fair, and called for the immediate release of "political prisoners" in Iran.
Qashqavi dismissed Germany's claims, saying the trial was an open one and with the presence of suspects' lawyers.
"The German official's move was 'astonishing' and was emblematic of flagrant interference of a foreign official in the trend of a court being held in an independent country," ISNA quoted Qashqavi as saying.
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, referring to the disputed June election in Iran, said on Tuesday that she will not congratulate Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad after he is sworn in as president.
