Iran and Sudan sign defense cooperation memorandum

TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iran and Sudan signed a memorandum on defense cooperation.

The Iranian defense minister Mustafa Mohammad Najjar and his Sudanese counterpart Abdul

Rahim Mohammad Hussein declared boosting bilateral defense cooperation plays a key role in beefing up peace and security in the region and in the world.

Mustafa Mohammad Najjar formally invited by his Sudanese counterpart Mohammed Hussein, received a red carpet greeting upon his arrival in Sudan from Sudanese top officials.

Raising technical, training and industrial cooperation, dispatching expert boards and founding a commission for bilateral defense cooperation are among the articles of the memorandum.

"What matters is that Iranian influential organizations have to play an active role in regional developments to make peace," Najjar said.

He also expressed satisfaction over the agreements reached during his trip and said bilateral defense cooperation will be enhanced if memorandums be implemented.

The Iranian official also said biased and prejudiced approaches followed by hegemonic powers are creating more anarchies and chaos in the world.

The Iranian Brigadier General is also scheduled to meet with other high-ranking Sudanese officials during his trip.

The Sudanese defense minister Mohammad Hussein for his part said his country is ready to increase cooperation with Iran in all fields particularly in defense section.

He appreciated Iran's support for Sudan against domineering powers while adding that Iran posses a unique status in the region.

Iran and Sudan enjoying widespread ties in domains including economy, agriculture and energy are expected to cooperate more in the field of defense as well.
