2006 Thursday 21 DecemberWomen are officially allowed to play soccer in Islamic attireIran Press News: The reigme-run news agency FARS wrote: The international football federation (FIFA) officially recognized the participation of Iranian women in soccer matches with regulation Islamic attire. The head of the development of FIFA showed pictures of official Iranian women football player’s attire and said: “Because FIFA’s slogan says ‘for all football’, we have tried to accept and accommodate various cultural distinctions of different countries. In article four, football jersies, shorts, socks and sneakers are a part of sports equipment and are compulsory, but in some Islamic countries, women wear head scarves and warm-up pants and as such based on our moto, we must respect that.” He pointed out that in several Islamic countries where the transporation system is segregated [where women sit on one side of the public transport and men on the other] when lady footballists are injured only female doctors are permitted to treat them. For this reason the FIFA Development Committee has accepted these codes and practices and do not have any problems in this area. |
