2006 Wednesday 20 DecemberFrench oil company, TOTAL caught paying the Islamic regime $80 million worth of bribesIran Press News: According to French reports from the Agence France Presse, sources in Paris anounced that the French judiciary is investigating bribes paid that the French oil company TOTAL paid the regime in Tehran for more lucrative gas contracts. These bribes were paid secretly between 1996 and 2006. According to a source in the French judiciary, it turns out that hundreds of millions of dollars have been found in [the Islamic republics’] Swiss bank accounts that have been in fact paid by TOTAL illegally over time; it is said that TOTAL paid Tehran’s regime for the very specific purpose of profitting from Iran’s gas fields. This report indicates that these $80 million were found in two Swiss bank accounts; apparently after the exposal of these accounts efforts were made to launder the money as well. TOTAL is also one of the main oil companies involved in the oil-for-food scandal. |
