Islamic parliament passes bill legalizing Islamic vigilantism

Iran Press News: The deputy of the provincial headquarter for establishing of the Islamic vigilante law, known as “Amr beh maroof va nahii az monker” (literally translated as: commanding the Islamic laws and warning to the violators) said: “The correction and ratification of the bill is in its final stages."

On Sunday, November 19th, in Kerman, Hojat al-Islam Ali Salmanian told the Islamic Republic news agency: “Approval of the bill in the Islamic parliament is a positive step in to the institutionalization of this canon. This bill is twofold; one as a deterrent from taking the wrong action in the name of this cannon and the other is to mobilize all the facilities and authorities for the realization of this duty.”

Salmanian stated that the detriment and negative consequences of vigilantism is more than the benefits however he qualified this point by adding: “Of course we are putting legal restrictions and regulations on those who take matters into their own hands. No one should have a sense of superiority of character and spiritual advantage. The moral, spiritual and intellectual direction of our society is definitely advancing and while we should be mindful not to allow the enemy to lure our youths toward their immorality, we should also be in control of our own status.”
