2006 Saturday 30 SeptemberTehran cotton factory closed down so a highrise can be builtIran Press News: Twenty workers from the Tehran cotton factory known as Bofkawr have been in limbo for a year and not a single member of the management offers them proper explanations. According to the regime-run news group, ILNA, on Wednesday evening, September 27th, the workers began a sit-in and stressed that as long as the management does not present them with a viable solution, they will continue their sit-in inside the company headquarters. One of the protesting workers said: “Within the last year or two, the company management has slowly reduced the number of workers of this unit from 1600 workers to 32; only 12 of these employees recived their retirement benefits.” He continued: “We are certain that the new buyers of the company intend to [shut us down] to use land for construction of residential highrises.” |
