2006 Thursday 28 SeptemberTehran mayor confesses to devastating poverty and unemploymentIran Press News: Revolutionary Guard Ghaliboff, Tehran’s mayor confessed to the devastating spread of poverty and unemployment in the Mullah government and said: "We cannot be poor and keep chanting about fighting America." Ghaliboff who spoke at the opening ceremony of the development projects of section 2 and 22 of Tehran, added: "With all the income from oil and the 70 million population [of Iran], we should not be facing such unemployment. Why are we standing on ceremony on this matter; how can we claim to be active? One look at the world will prove that we do not have the right to talk. Rather than ask me for roads that are better paved, Tehran residents instead beg me for work for themselves and their children." He also stated: "Approximately 85% of women who are engaged in prostitution, have been driven to that as a result of poverty and unemployment.” |
